More broadly, any Apple Intelligence requests that need to be processed off your device will go to the firm’s own private cloud, Private Cloud Compute, which claims to safeguard your data from external sources. Apple Intelligence will be rolled out across the world, but the features will face a significant delay in the EU and China due to regulatory concerns. Apple Intelligence is the catch-all name for the iPhone maker’s AI capabilities, including ChatGPT-4o integration coming with its iOS 18 software upgrade. Yet the vast amounts of data needed by AI are leading to concerns about data privacy. Apple has built its reputation on privacy – its ad states “Privacy. That’s iPhone” – so this is an area where the firm claims it is different.

It is also much faster and eventually will be able to talk back to you. It should be noted that as of this writing, not every feature appears available yet. The features are gradually launching over the coming weeks, but we don’t know when specific features will become available.

The app pulled in $28 million in net revenue from the App Store and Google Play in July, according to data provided by app intelligence firm Appfigures. I suspect when Ultra 1.5 launches it will be included with Gemini Advanced. That brings it up to par with the bigger model but is tied to the speed of the mini model. OpenAI has found that GPT-4o, which powers the recently launched alpha of Advanced Voice Mode in ChatGPT, can behave in strange ways. In a new “red teaming” report, OpenAI reveals some of GPT-4o’s weirder quirks, like mimicking the voice of the person speaking to it or randomly shouting in the middle of a conversation. An artist and hacker found a way to jailbreak ChatGPT to produce instructions for making powerful explosives, a request that the chatbot normally refuses. An explosives expert who reviewed the chatbot’s output told TechCrunch that the instructions could be used to make a detonatable product and was too sensitive to be released.

The series of major product releases in recent years has coincided with leadership turmoil at OpenAI. “While these instances appear benign, they signal a need for continued investigation into how these effects might manifest over longer periods of time,” the company concluded. Meta announced that more basic versions of Llama-3 will be rolled out soon, ahead of the release of the most advanced version, which is expected next summer. Llama-3 will also be multimodal, which means it is capable of processing and generating text, images and video.

The ChatGPT integrations, powered by GPT-4o, will arrive on iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia later this year, and will be free without the need to create a ChatGPT or OpenAI account. Features exclusive to paying ChatGPT users will also be available through Apple devices. OpenAI and TIME announced a multi-year strategic partnership that brings the magazine’s content, both modern and archival, to ChatGPT. As part of the deal, TIME will also gain access to OpenAI’s technology in order to develop new audience-based products. ChatGPT, OpenAI’s text-generating AI chatbot, has taken the world by storm since its launch in November 2022. What started as a tool to hyper-charge productivity through writing essays and code with short text prompts has evolved into a behemoth used by more than 92% of Fortune 500 companies.

A chatbot can be any software/system that holds dialogue with you/a person but doesn’t necessarily have to be AI-powered. For example, there are chatbots that are rules-based in the sense that they’ll give canned responses to questions. More and more tech companies and search engines are utilizing the chatbot to automate text or quickly answer user questions/concerns. The company is also testing out a tool that detects DALL-E generated images and will incorporate access to real-time news, with attribution, in ChatGPT. Apple announced at WWDC 2024 that it is bringing ChatGPT to Siri and other first-party apps and capabilities across its operating systems.

If the person doesn’t have a ChatGPT account, the conversation appears as a static message that they can read but not continue. If they do have an account, they can continue the conversation on their end. To delete all your conversations from the mobile app, tap the two-lined icon at the top left and then tap the ellipsis icon next to your name.

OpenAI CTO Mira Murati announced that she is leaving the company after more than six years. Hours after the announcement, OpenAI’s chief research officer, Bob McGrew, and a research VP, Barret Zoph, also left the company. CEO Sam Altman revealed the two latest resignations in a post on X, along with leadership transition plans.

The AI tech will be used to help employees with work-related tasks and come as part of Match’s $20 million-plus bet on AI in 2024. ChatGPT users found that ChatGPT was giving nonsensical answers for several hours, prompting OpenAI to investigate the issue. Incidents varied from repetitive phrases to confusing and incorrect answers to queries.

The demo team showed ChatGPT an equation and asked it to help solve the problem. The AI voice assistant walked through the math problem without giving the answer. During live demos, OpenAI presenters asked the voice assistant to make up a bed time story. Through the demo they interrupted it and had it demonstrate the ability to sound not just natural but dramatic and emotional. They also had the voice sound robotic, sing and tell the story with more intensity. Based on some of the live demos, the system sure seemed to be moving at speed, especially in the conversational voice mode, but more on that below.
